What injuries can occur in the back and how can they be treated?
Back pain is one of the most common physical ailments. It affects a large number of people of all ages. Lack of exercise, excessive exercise, stress and daily activities can cause severe back pain.
Low back pain
This is one of the most common forms of back pain and can be caused by lifting heavy objects incorrectly. Poor posture and lack of strength in the back muscles can affect the entire back. Physiotherapy, strengthening exercises, the use of cold and heat, and appropriate medication can all help to relieve discomfort. Better posture and hygiene and avoiding unnecessary strain can also help.
Sciatica
This is a burning pain that radiates from the lower back into the legs and is caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve. Physiotherapy, stretching exercises and medication help to relieve the symptoms. In some cases, epidural injections or surgery are needed to relieve pressure on the nerve.
Neck injury and pain
Poor posture, extreme movements such as whiplash from a car accident, or accumulated stress can lead to neck injury or pain. Physiotherapy and relaxation can help with stress. Painkillers and the use of some cervical traction devices also relieve tension in the spine.
Bulging discs
A bulging disc is an injury to the intervertebral discs, causing them to flatten and expand beyond their normal space. It can be treated with physiotherapy, pain medication and back strengthening to improve spinal stability.
Herniated disc
This occurs when the gelatinous core of an intervertebral disc slips outwards, compressing the nerves surrounding it. It can be treated with physiotherapy, strengthening exercises and medication in cases of moderate severity. In more severe cases, epidural injections or surgery are used to relieve pressure on the nerves.
Degenerative disc disease
A chronic condition in which the intervertebral discs wear down over time, causing pain and stiffness. Treatment for this condition ranges from physiotherapy to posture and, in more severe cases, surgery.
Our therapeutic options
In all cases, depending on the severity of the condition, the acute or chronic nature of the condition, the patient’s baseline condition and medical, toxic or allergic history, whether or not the patient is scheduled for a surgical correction or has already undergone one, and the time elapsed since it was performed, therapeutic options can be proposed to complement conventional treatments, favoring an earlier and more efficient recovery and rehabilitation, with less sequelae and providing tools to generate in many cases, a regenerative effect that may eventually stop or reverse chronic degenerative and inflammatory conditions.
Among these therapeutic options we have the use of platelet-derived growth factors, known as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which in our case, we enrich with exosomes that are factors produced by stem cells to generate much of its action. Also the use alone or in combination of exosomes, the application of ozone (O3), hyaluronic acid, local anesthetics for the realization of blocks, drugs such as traumeel or zeel t and of course the use of stem cells. These can be used alone or in combination with intravenous infusions of vitamins, minerals and others, depending on the patient’s condition and desire.
Tools such as hyperbaric oxygenation therapy (hyperbaric chamber), infrared sauna and frequency specific microcurrent (FSM) are also available.
All these strategies, depending on the case, could be performed with an ultrasound- guided application, thus improving the precision in the application and therefore its effectiveness and reducing the possibility of adverse effects and/or complications.
